KOONS, RAY posted by Lee A. Phillips on Wednesday, July 8, 1998

The 1850 Preble Co. census includes a young couple that I believe were my GGG Grandparents. They are Absalom KOONS, 26 yoa, and Isabel (RAY?), 19 yoa. They later moved to Indiana and raised a large family. Does anyone out there recognize these two surnames? I appreciate your help.

MCCOY, SELLERS, WATT posted by Joyce Wilson on Wednesday, July 8, 1998

My 4th great grandfather, Daniel MCCOY married Maria WATT in Preble County, OH, in 1815. I am looking for any of their offspring. I know they had several children. They moved to Boone County, IN, in 1830. Daniel was married to Elenor SELLERS when he moved to Preble Co. Elenor died in Preble County but I have not been able to find a record of her death. They had four children...looking for anyone related.

ALDRICH, CAMPHOR, CHRISMAN, HENDRICKS, HINER, MCCORCKLE, MOORE, NICHOLAS, NICHOLS, SCOTT, STANDISH, STUBBS, WILLIAMS, WILSON, WORTHINGTON, YOUNG posted by Sarah Shaw Tatounova on Thursday, July 9, 1998

Interested in finding other descendants of my MOORE/STUBBS family: Seaborn MOORE married Rachel STUBBS 06 Mar 1816, probably at the West Elkton MM, Preble Co. Most of their children, John, Esther, Benejah (my ancestor), Evans, Thomas, David, Hezekiah, Jesse, Seaborn, Mary J., and John (presumably the first died as a child) were born in Preble Co. Esther married 1st John HINER, 2nd Noah ALDRICH, Evans married 1st Julia WILLIAMS, 2nd Jane SCOTT, Thomas married Martha HENDRICKS, David married 1st Louisa STANDISH, 2nd Tirzan YOUNG, Hezekiah married 1st Elizabeth WORTHINGTON, 2nd Melissa NICHOLS, Jesse married Martha WILSON, Seaborn married Mary Emma CHRISMAN, Mary married Joseph MCCORCKLE, John married 1st Elizabeth NICHOLAS, 2nd Lizzie CAMPHOR. The family moved to Illinois and Indiana sometime in the 1830's, so none of these marriages occurred in Ohio, and probably many of the families are not from Preble Co. I have a huge amount on both the MOORE and STUBBS ancestry and!! am eager to share!

CARTER, CARTWRIGHT, THOMPSON, TRADER, WINTEROWD posted by Shelby Rose on Thursday, July 9, 1998

Am trying to determine if my CARTER family of Indiana is connected to TRADER of Preble Co., Ohio. On the 1850 census Adam CARTER, born ab.1810 Ohio, is listed in both Henry Co. and Howard Co., Indiana. Believe he was brother of Noah CARTER and their mother was named Esther or Easter, born 1771 Maryland. Adam's daughter, Rebecca CARTER, born ab.1840 Indiana, married first Abraham TRADER in 1856 Howard Co., Indiana. She married second Peter WINTEROWD in 1881 Tama Co., Iowa. Abraham's father was William TRADER, born ab.1795 Virginia, and his mother was Elinor, born ab. 1800 Ohio. Peter WINTEROWD's first wife was Abigail THOMPSON and his mother is believed to have been a CARTWRIGHT. Both Abraham and Peter were born in Ohio, possibly Preble or Darke Co. Peter, Rebecca, and children eventually moved on to Missouri. Would appreciate any information, especially assistance in nailing down Ohio counties where they were located.

BOYD, FOGLE, SHIELDS, WILEY posted by Erin Block on Saturday, July 18, 1998

I am looking for the SHIELDS, FOGLE, and WILEY. Patrick SHIELDS was married to Mary FOGLE they both came from Ireland but were married in Preble Co. raised there children there and died there. Mary and Patrick had 11 children and when Mary died Patrick married Salina BOYD. Patrick is believed to have had 24 children so most of the SHIELDS left in Preble Co and surrounding counties are believed to stem from him. I also have a Margaret WILEY who married George W. SHIELDS. They both as well were born, lived and died in Preble Co. I do know Patrick's father was named Daniel but have only found the name Mary as his wife. If anyone has any information on these families I would love to hear from you and love to share information. Look forward to hearing from you!!!
